The Witcher
This page holds my illustration work for the Wither Blood of Elves by Adrzej Sapkowski. It was done as part of my Illustration module on my Creative arts course. The illustrations depict various scenes from the book, and are done in Acrylic paint, oil paint, coloured pencil, watercolour and Indian ink on A3 mixed media paper. Due to copyright law non of these works are for sale at this moment, it is my hope that these works are considered to be fan art, created for my own personal pleasure and that of others.

Geralt
This is an illustration of Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher book series, when I was adapting the Blood of Elves for my university illustration final. I wanted to make Geralt look different than the video game depiction of his character, so as to add my own interpretation and style. I made him tall and thin as the book described, and not as bulky as in the video game and netflix adaption. I gave him a heart shaped face and long silver blade patterned with snakes and runes. I also changed his armour, so as to be made from wolf and animal pelts, his under chain-mail is made from crocodile scales. His wolf pendant is a different shape to that seen in the Witcher logo in the popular video games. In this particular illustration I wanted to show visually the neutrality of the character, being neither morally good or evil. On each side of Geralts face is a sun and moon, intending to signify yin and yang, good and evil, whilst showing that he hunts monsters in day and night.
This illustration was painted in oil, and lined in Indian ink on A3 mixed media paper.
Ciri
This is an illustration of a young Ciri from the witcher book Blood of Elves. She is in the dress that Yennifer makes for Ciri at castle Kaer Morhen. I wanted to make the characters realistic as possible, whilst still giving them unique faces from my imagination. I studied a lot of male and female faces and skulls, and began to combine facial features, and create a bone structure, this would lead to creating a new face. I wanted to give the skin a textured look, so I choose not to use flat Acrylic paint, and instead choose oil paint or colouring pencil on top of pencil shades. The pencil shades beneath the colouring pencil I found created an interesting look of shading and shadow on the faces, without having to change the colour tone. Oil paint I found worked well with creating the faces oily skin texture. I spent a lot of time experimenting with different materials throughout the project to try and create the perfect realistic look.
This illustration was done in, coloured pencil and Biro pen for the lines, on A4 mixed media paper.
Elven Ruins
This is an illustration of the Elven Ruins that Geralt and Ciri find in the Witcher Blood of Elves. I based the Elven statue of chiense robes with a chiense style crown ornament on the elf's head. I wanted to give the ancient elves a very old oriental look.
The painting was done in Acrylic Paint on A3 mixed media paper
Withcer Kaer Morhen Winter
This is an illustration of castle Kaer Morhen during winter when Witchers return to castle. It is a scene from the Witcher the Blood of Elves.
It was painted in Acrylic paint on A3 mixed media paper.
Kaer Morhen Night
This is an illustration of castle Kaer Morhen, when Gerart is taking Ceri there for the first time, in the Blood of Elves book. I took a lot of inspiration for the piece, from the ruined castles around Aberystwyth in Wales, as well as from paintings of castles from the town museum.
It was painted in Acrylic paint on A3 mixed media paper.
Yennifer Stormy
This is an illustration of Yennifer taking Ceri to the rune stone in the forest, a trail of magic to test her power as a sorceress, and an early lesson in magic.

Triss in the woods
This is an illustration of Triss Merigold riding in the woods, travelling to castle Kaer Morhen, from the Witcher book Blood of Elves. I took photographs and studied lots of different shapes of trees and then later implemented them into this paining. I wanted to make the forest and everything as realistic as possible, whilst still re-creating the forest from my imagination.
This illustration was done in Oil paint and Indian ink on A3 mixed media paper. .
Triss
This is an illustration of Triss Merigold from the witcher book Blood of Elves. I gave her a gold and green dress, that was inspired by Medieval dresses worn by women at that time.
This illustration was done in, coloured pencil and Brio pen for the lines, on A4 mixed media paper.
Yennifer
This is an illustration of Yennifer showing Ceri her obsidian pendant, with is changing shapes growing and shrinking. It is a scene from the Blood of Elves.
It was painted in Oil paint on A3 mixed media paper.
Geralt concept
This is an early character concept of Geralt. He is wielding both his long sword and silver witcher sword, and his armour is made of leather for it’s light weight and flexibility allowing more athletic fighting.
This illustration was drawn in coloured pencil and biro on A4 mixed media paper.
Witcher Battle
This is an illustration of a battle scene from the Witcher Blood of Elves, between Elven Barbarians known as the squirrels and a group of Dwaven Merchants. Ciri, Geralt and the witch Triss Merigold are defending the merchants and their caravans from the Elven Barbarians.
This illustration was painted in Acrylic paint on A3 mixed media paper.
Witcher Front Cover
This is an illustration for the front cover of the witcher Blood of Elves. It depicts Ciri looking into the future through dreams and visions. The images and sounds within the dreams are abstract, and she cannot make sense of them, they are very dramatic and traumatising nightmares. I tried to include all of the visions she has in her nightmares onto Ciri’s face, as she looks into a campfire, mirroring a scene at the beginning of the book. I thought it would be a very interesting front cover, showing most of the themes in the book as a compilation piece.
The illustration was painted in Acrylic paint on A2 mixed media paper.
Witcher Fighting Concept
This is an illustration of Geralt fighting the Elven Barbarians the Squirrels in the book the Witcher Blood of Elves. I was experimenting with the armour and weapons of both the Elves and Geralt. I thought it would be an interesting idea for the Elves armour to be made out of wood. And in place of chain-mail have roots and vines. I also wanted the Elven blades and bows to have a leaf like look to them. All of these moving towards the idea of nature and making things out of natural easily attainable materials, showing them to be barbarians and a less advanced culture than the were hundreds of years before. I was also playing with this idea of naturalism with Geralt the Witcher himself. His armour in this illustration is made out of a combination of lynx cat pelts, crocodile scales and wolf pelts. Incorporating the remains of his various kills on his hunts into his armour. The idea that he possibly wears them like trophies.
The illustration was painted in watercolour and penned in Biro on A4 mixed media paper.
Witcher Pendants
This is an illustration of the Pendants of Yennifer and Geralt in the Witcher Blood of Elves Book. Yennifers pendant is made of out of obsidian shaped in the form of diamonds that increase and decrease in size and shape. Geralts pendant is that of a wolf. I wanted to make his pendant look different from the design seem in the game and Tv series, so that I could put my own personal spin on the design. So I modelled the design on a common forest wolf and removed the mane, and made a few other small modifications.
This illustration was drawn in pencil on A2 mixed media paper.
Witcher Silver Sword
This is an illustration of Geralts silver witcher sword, that he uses to kill monsters. Monsters and demons in the Witcher world are only vulnerable to magic or silver, hence the silver sword. This sword was inspired by the silver sword seen the Witcher video games with some intentional differences to make it more unique and my own personal interpretation.
This illustration was drawn in coloured pencil and penned in Biro on A4 mixed media paper.
Witcher Hunting
This is an illustration of Geralt stabbing a drowner, the undead demons of the drowned dead. Geralt is on the remains of a battlefield hunting demons completing various contracts he has taken up. It is an early conceptual illustration and not a scene present in the book itself.
This illustration was pained in Acrylic paint on A4 mixed media paper.
Witcher Training
This is an illustration of Geralt training Ciri in Castle Kaer Morhen to become a Witcher, in the Witcher blood of Elves book. The castle has various training courses in which Witchers can improve their skills in combat and hunting throughout it’s grounds. Such as jumping between pillars as can be seen in the background of this illustration, there are also many other gruelling courses.
This illustration was painted in Acrylic paint and penned in Indian Ink of A3 mixed media paper.
Witcher Yennifer Concept
This is an illustration of Yennifer from the Witcher Blood of Elves. It is an early conception of the character. I wanted to make her look very strict and intimidating, but also attractive and beautiful . I added spikes on the shoulders of her dress to try and create this intimidating vibe. I also gave the dress many angular patterns with sharp triangle patters with sharp lines showing her strict and sharp nature. This dress is also littered with feathered spikes to further emphasise these ideas.
This illustration was drawn in coloured pencil and penned in Brio on A4 mixed media paper.
